About HAM-net

HAM (HTLV-1 Associated Myelopathy) is a rare nerve disease afflicting few patients, and because the patients are scattered widely at various medical institutions, a major cause of the lack of progress in developing a cure or improving patient conditions has been a lack of centralized information gathering. Consequently, this website was established to collect information from patients all over the country concerning their symptoms, progress, and treatments in the hopes of clarifying the facts concerning HAM and its origins. There is a connection between gathering information from large numbers of individual patients and finding a cure. Still, in order to find a cure, it is necessary to implement clinical trials/clinical studied utilizing both existing and new treatments. In order for this to go smoothly, cooperation from a great number of patients is necessary, and so it is important that we are now able to use our registration system to notify everyone of information regarding clinical trials/clinical studies. As a result, it is expected that research concerning the development and establishment of a cure will be able to advance steadily. This project is being conducted in accordance with the Research Department of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. The following members play a central role in the research towards the establishment of new treatment methods for HAM and the management of this website.
